Over the past 30 years, many advances have been made in the understanding of HIV and the treatment and care of affected patients. HIV infection is now considered to be a chronic and manageable medical condition, rather than the fatal illness it once was. People with HIV are now able to live longer and healthier lives by using antiretroviral therapy (ART).
A 43-year-old HIV-positive Caucasian man (Mr B) was seen at his annual HIV clinic appointment, where he reported having problems with erectile dysfunction (ED) for the past six months. He had difficulty obtaining and maintaining an erection and also noticed loss of his morning erections.
